Did you check out the national televised game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons earlier this week? It is the holidays after all, what else could you possibly have been doing?

We checked the whole thing out, those Lakers could be a playoff matchup for the Phoenix Suns in the postseason you know, and one player stood out above all else as a dream trade target.

Get Marcus Sasser to the Phoenix Suns as soon as possible

Yes we're going to talk about the Pistons' guard who plays 8.6 minutes per game and is making less than $3 million this season, and not LeBron James (it was his 41st birthday that night) or Luka Doncic.

You only had to take one look at what he was bringing off the bench, hustle, 3-point shooting and a desire not to lose the game, to know that he would be a dream player in any rotation for Suns' head coach Jordan Ott.

We've already seen the team work wonders with both Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea, but we also know the organization likely can't keep both around beyond this season.

Although this is nothing but the hopes of one person having watched Sasser be the perfect bench player for a rapidly improving Suns team, there are two pieces of information that make this possibe, in theory at least.

The first is the money, as the Suns can easily absorb a guy making just over the veteran's minimum for the next two seasons. They could then figure out what to do with him after that.

Even if this meant dumping Nick Richards, and we're struggling to see an alternative with him at this point, Sasser is the kind of low-risk, high-reward player the front office have already done a great job at targeting.

Just as important is the fact the Pistons look like they could be a player away from getting to the NBA Finals, and have been spoken about as potential landing spots for Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Suns won't be making any big moves at the deadline this season, but we've already spoken about how they could quietly profit being the third team to make bigger deals happen.

If the Pistons have a chance to go all in and win a championship with the Eastern Conference this wide open and as a one seed, if they have to let Sasser go to make that happen they obviously will.

Their bench unit is so impressive, particularly defensively, and Sasser does play his part in that. But he's way down the pecking order even on the nights when he does have it going.

Call us crazy, but this looks like the perfect combination of player with a point to prove who defends like a manic and can shoot the 3-ball, and a head coach and roster that wants as much of those skills as possible.
