How will Cameron Payne play?
With all the talk about experiments, experiences, and (temporarily) excommunicated players, it is easy to forget the Phoenix Suns added another point guard to their team. Cameron Payne, who played for Monty Williams when they were both with the Oklahoma City Thunder, makes the fourth player from the top-15 picks on the 2015 draft on the Suns’ roster.
Payne has yet to find any kind of footing in the NBA after being a lottery pick that season but has put up monstrous numbers in the G-League lately, so I have subtle, yet burning anticipation to watch him play and see what he can bring to the Phoenix Suns.
Hopefully, he doesn’t bring yet another cog in the backup point guard carousel, but I am bracing myself or that possibility. There is likely going to be a battle between him and Jevon Carter for the role (with Ty Jerome in a distant third), and it will be fun watching this play out on the court.
Oh, and for those who care about this kind of thing, if his practice jersey is any indication, he will wear #15 with the Suns.
