POINT GUARD

STARTER: DENNIS JOHNSON

Johnson was the starting point guard of the Suns for the first part of the decade (1980-83). In his three-year run, he averaged 17.5 PPG, 4.4 APG and 4.7 RPG while shooting 46% from the field. Acquired from the Seattle SuperSonics for Paul Westphal, Johnson was less an offensive threat like his predecessor, but Moreno of a defensive one. He was sincerely the first great defender the Phoenix Suns had employed. After three years though of unsuccessful playoffs runs, he was dealt to the Boston Celtics. There is no doubt, however, that he was the best point guard of the decade.
