My Opinion: GO GET DEMARCUS COUSINS

The Phoenix Suns have committed themselves to a youth movement. We all know that.  And their recent loss to the Memphis Grizzlies cemented their fate for this year. Unfortunately Phoenix is not going to make the playoffs for a franchise record 7th season. So what the heck do they have to lose?

The reported proposed trade of Alex Len, T.J. Warren and the Suns 2017 first round draft pick for arguably the best center in the NBA?  No wonder Sacramento apparently said, “Hell no.”

This trade is never going to happen, but it sure is fun to think about.

Sure, Cousins is a head case.  As reported by FOX Sports, Cousins has a career total of 105 technical fouls and 15 already this season alone. He has a bit of a temper. We all know this. But maybe that’s what the historically “soft” Suns need right now.

The Suns have only recently gone through the Markieff Morris self-destructive phase.  I can’t blame them for being suspect of another player who “cares too much.”  But if there’s anyway the Suns could pick off someone who may be the best center in the NBA, how can they look the other way? Especially if they can keep what may be the most dynamic backcourt duo in the league in Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker for years to come.  A “5” like Cousins could make all the Suns’ deficiencies  at the power forward and small forward go away.  Who cares if Marquese Chriss can’t make a layup in crunch time if Cousins is there to clean up?

I’ve often opined that the Suns are in danger of complete irrelevancy if they don’t make a move sooner rather than later to strengthen their front court.  If Len, Warren and a 1st round draft pick aren’t enough for Sacramento, then for God’s sake offer them something more!  How often have the Suns ever been in position to acquire one of the best big men in the NBA?

I’ve been a Suns fan since… well, forever.  And if I’m not mistaken, their last chance at the league’s best big man was a coin flip in 1969. The Suns lost that one and have been waiting for another chance ever since.

I am tired of waiting. Let’s go get one now.
