2015 NBA Draft Media Day Roundup: Part 2
By Gavin Schall
Jerian Grant
Jerian Grant is another guy I absolutely love for the Suns. Unlike Booker, Grant can play both guard spots and has a skill-set that fits almost perfectly with Phoenix’s attack. The biggest concern with Grant is his long range shooting, but as you’ll see below, he thinks he’s got it down.
On his immediate impact and impact further down the road
"“Right away, playmaking, I think using the pick-and-roll is one of the best things I do and one of the best in the draft. [Down the road] Just being more consistent, I feel like I’ll get better and better as the years go on, as hard as I work.”"
On the point guard he most wants to matchup with and his mindset going against them
"“[Russell] Westbrook, to me, is the best point guard in the NBA right now. So just competing against the best would be fun. “Once you get there [to the league] you’re competing, you can’t be in awe of anybody or they’ll go out and score 40 on you or embarrass you.”"
On his fit with Phoenix
"“They’re a team that likes to get up and down, my playmaking ability will help get guys open shots in the open court.”"
On potentially backing up Bledsoe and Knight
"“I’m a guy who likes to compete, so if two guys are there you know I’m competing, making them better and making myself better.”"
On improving his three point shooting
"“My three-point shot has been getting really consistent and it’s been going a lot in these workouts. It’s starting to look better and it’s starting to go in a lot more.”"
Grant noted that he worked out for 17 teams (he specifically cited the 7-20 range as a realistic landing spot) during the pre-draft process. If you’re trying to find the reason why, look no further.
