Bobby Portis

Bobby Portis seems to fit what the Suns are doing right now, and he has a skillset that would certainly be welcome on the team. However, it seems like he’s going to be selected somewhere in the 15-25 range, and there will probably be more talented players on the board for the Suns to choose from, regardless of the position they aim to draft. However, for Portis, fit isn’t something that matters; it’s all about the experience.

On what to expect on draft day:

"“I expect it be crazy. Right now it’s even crazy just to be in this room getting interviewed by like 100 people. To be in New York is great because not everybody gets the opportunity to experience this. I’ve very blessed and grateful for the opportunity.”"

On whether or not he sees one ideal fit for him in the draft:

"“No sir. I feel like any team that gets me is going to get a gem. I can play in any type of style and in any type of system. I’m a guy that bred myself on hard work. Hard work and dedication.”"

On the entire draft process and experience:

"“I want to take all this in. You only get to go through this one time. You have to experience it enjoy it while you can. I’m going to be 30 before I know it. Ten years are going to pass by quick, and I’m going to wish I were back here at this position. I can’t wrap my head around it. It’s been a crazy ride.”"

In person, Portis was quite interesting to talk to, especially considering that he is such an intense competitor on the court. He seemed genuine and seemed like he’d be happy with wherever he ended up. For a possible connection with the Suns, it really comes down to how committed the front office is to the idea of drafting the best player available. Because in the end, Portis could very well be the perfect fit, if there is such a thing.
