The ultra-intense 6’11″, 246-pound Bobby Portis originally attended high school at Hall High in Little Rock, Arkansas, before being named the state’s Mr. Basketball in 2013 and committing to the University of Arkansas. Portis’ decision to stay close to home and his mother made some history as he became the first in-state McDonald’s All-American to sign with the Razorbacks since 1992.
As a freshman at Arkansas, Portis averaged 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks a game on his way to being named to the SEC All-Freshman team and All-SEC Second Team. In his final season before declaring for the 2015 NBA Draft, Portis averaged 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks a game, transforming himself into a surefire into a dominate power forward and a surefire NBA first round pick.
On Mar. 10, Portis was selected as the SEC Player of the Year, the first time a Razorback had won the award in 20 years. The question is, is Portis the power forward the Suns are looking for?
