Before the 2015 NBA Trade Deadline, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Phoenix Suns would be dealing away Gerald Green. His minutes had taken a sudden downturn, he’s set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Suns were focused on using the majority of their remaining cap space to re-sign Goran Dragic.

We all know what happened after that: Dragic said he wouldn’t re-sign and the Suns traded him and four other players away at the deadline.

Curiously enough, Gerald Green wasn’t one of them, despite there being plenty of reasons to trade him. The Suns are still intent on chasing a playoff spot, despite the fact that they’re currently 10th in the Western Conference, and they have a new-look roster that’s still trying to find its groove.

With a new emphasis on youth and development for the Suns, it’s hard to see where the struggling Gerald Green fits in.
