Devin Booker isn’t just a 20-year-old who has the most points in a game since Kobe Bryant’s 81. He isn’t just the focal point of the Suns offense, a franchise trying to re-establish it’s relevancy in the Western Conference. No, Booker is much more than that. Being one of the more promising young stars in the NBA, he has let fans peel back a layer, and realize how great of a person he is off the court as well.

Devin Booker plays a more mature game than his age tells you. He has a swagger, but also a calmness about his game to make you, in the words of Joel Embiid of the Sixers, “trust the process.” Something that people might not see as easily as the points he scores on the court each night, is the genuine, kind-hearted manner that he represents himself with to everyone he meets, off the court.

More from Valley of the Suns

The past two NBA Draft Lottery’s Booker has taken two different kids from hospitals with unfortunate circumstances, and treated them to an unforgettable experience. First, was Jenna, who to her credit, immediately became loved by the Phoenix Suns and overall NBA community with her contagious smile and great personality. This season Booker brought along Noah, a boy who clearly loved Booker as a player but also learned how great of a friend he could be to him as well. The two young men went to a famous New York basketball park to shoot some hoops together, and with Noah’s family, went out to a nice restaurant in the City. The gracious NBA star gave Noah a time he wouldn’t forget.

In a lifestyle that a lot of people take for granted, it is refreshing to see a young player stay so true to his roots and good morals.

The most recent case of Booker showing he is more than just a great basketball player but a great person as well, actually came through our beloved Twitter page @ValleyoftheSuns – go follow right now if you don’t already – where we have been running a poll for best Suns moment of the ’16 – ’17 season.

The final matchup for “Moment of the Year” was between Tyler Ulis’ game winner against the Boston Celtics, and Devin Booker’s game winner against the Dallas Mavericks. We tweeted out to Booker to see if he would respond, or vote, and he did much more. He quote tweeted the message at him, and commented how he is voting for Ulis, and that he deserves it.

This is just another example showing Booker’s exceptional character.

It has been truly great to watch Booker develop his game since over his first two years in the league, and undoubtedly, we will be seeing him continue to excel for many seasons to come. But the consistent reminder that he is such a great role model for his fans, and a great example of how a young star should act with his level of fame, makes Devin Booker the star the Suns have needed for a while.

(Editor’s Note: We would also like to give a shout out to fan favorite’s Jared Dudley and Alan Williams for their assistance in getting the vote out for Moment of the Year. Combined with Devin Booker’s re-tweet, their contributions drove the vote count to well over 2,000, a fantastic participation rate that can only be attributed to their good-natured participation. Thank you, @JaredDudley619, @alantwilliams, and of course, @DevinBook!)
