In a key Emirates NBA Cup matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday night, Phoenix Suns guard Collin Gillespie was the hero.
With All-Star Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks both fouled out, Phoenix needed someone to step up down by one late in the game after Minnesota star Anthony Edwards missed two crucial free throws.
Gillespie was up to the task.

Driving into the chest of Minnesota guard Donte DiVincenzo, Gillespie got to the painted area, pulled up and sunk a short jumper with six seconds remaining to give Phoenix the lead.
The T-Wolves didn't have any timeouts remaining, and their final possession ended with a missed 3-pointer from forward Julius Randle.
With the game winner, Gillespie set a new season-high with 20 points off the bench. He added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals to the box score.

The performance was much-needed after Booker scuffled to his worst outing of the young season. He shot just 4-of-18 from the field and turned the ball over nine times.
Phoenix let a first-half lead get away from them, primarily because of the turnovers. But Gillespie cited the Suns' "no quit mentality" after the game when being interviewed by Suns sideline reporter Amanda Pflugrad.
"That's our group, man. We don't quit," Gillespie said.
The Suns have been defined by grit and hustle this season. Gillespie continues to endear himself as a fan favorite.
