Time is up in Phoenix for this player after Kevin Durant trade

No need for him anymore.

Kevin Durant might finally have left the Phoenix Suns for the Houston Rockets, but it is going to have a long-lasting impact on how the next version of this team is built in The Valley. Already there has been some talk that they could perhaps ditch Bradley Beal in favor of a former All-Star big man, while the 10th pick in the NBA Draft will come in very handy, even if this player is gone when they pick.

As you're probably aware at this point, the Suns now have a glut of shooting guards, and no primary ball-handlers. Already we've suggested that this could see a return to point guard duties for Devin Booker - although as we all know - that is not the best use of his talents. Beal and Jalen Green filling out the depth chart at the two, meaning minutes will be hard to come by for others next season.

Which is why the Suns have to trade Grayson Allen as soon as possible.

Allen had an excellent first season in Phoenix - leading the league in 3-point shooting at 46.1 percent - and was their third best player as Beal struggled with injuries. The time to move him would have been then, because his value was at an all-time high. Allen also remains the best player the Suns got back in the Deandre Ayton trade, a depressing thought.

Last season a combination of injuries and willingly giving up his starting spot to point guard Tyus Jones saw Allen fall down the pecking order with the Suns. At this point he is also behind Royce O'Neale in the depth chart, although where exactly he fits in here also remains to be seen. With the Suns still in the second apron however, they need to shed Allen quickly.

Still only 29-years-old, there are surely playoff ready teams out there who could do with his services. He has one of the best shooting strokes in the league - and while he's hardly an elite defender - his reputation as an at times dirty players does mean he's not afraid to get stuck into his matchup when it is called for. That's not celebrating dirty play either, but Allen is physical on the defensive end.

He has two years remaining on his current deal, with the second a player option you would imagine he is likely to pick up. That's some level of security for another franchise that could be interested in him, and the Suns wouldn't even want much back in return. The Portland Trail Blazers for example - after trading for Jrue Holiday - appear to be intent on getting back into the playoff picture.

Taking a swing on Allen - and only giving up the always injured Robert Williams III in return - could be a solution that works for both teams. The Suns need to get rid of some scoring wings, and turn that into depth at either point guard or center positions. Areas they need help and will likely look to add depth to through the draft. With Durant gone and Green in The Valley, there really is no need for Allen.
