Suns shut down Dillon Brooks trade chatter with bold message

Well, there you have it. On Monday afternoon, Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia replied to a tweet on X (Twitter) about DeMarcus Cousins saying that the Lakers should trade Austin Reaves for Dillon Brooks. Ishbia wrote, "Don't bother calling... Suns aren't interested. Dillon's not going anywhere."

With Los Angeles needing a two-way wing, there has been some speculation that Rob Pelinka could reach out to Phoenix about Brooks (losing Reaves for Brooks is a whole different scenario). He wouldn't help with the Lakers' spacing, but he'd help with their 24th-ranked defense. Brooks is shooting a career-high 46.1% from the field, too. And yes, that's on a career-high 17.1 attempts per game.

Brooks has upped his stock in Phoenix over the past few months to the point where leaving the Suns via trade before the deadline is a topic of conversation. Ishbia made sure to shut that down with a month left until the deadline.

Mat Ishbia says Suns aren't going to trade Dillon Brooks

Clearly, Phoenix loves Dillon Brooks, and Brooks loves Phoenix. He's been the best part of the Kevin Durant trade thus far, as Jalen Green has appeared in only two games. The Suns welcomed his defensive tenacity and hard-nosed attitude with open arms. It feels like he's where he's meant to be, making the idea of a trade hard to grasp for fans.

Phoenix is currently seventh in the conference and should compete in the postseason this year, whether that be in the play-in tournament or in the actual playoffs — maybe even both. The Suns aren't in a position to rebuild because they don't own most of their future draft picks, so their competitiveness this season has been a plus. Brooks has contributed to that.

On the flip side, it would be beneficial for Phoenix to replenish its depleted chest, and that could happen with a Brooks trade. Ishbia doesn't seem to care about that, not even if it meant getting Reaves in return. He's focused on the now, and right now, the Suns are staying well above their heads in the West.

While anything can change at a moment's notice in the NBA, it must be nice for Brooks to know that Phoenix doesn't intend to trade him. He's wanted exactly where he is.

Cut the Dillon Brooks to the Lakers talk, at least for now. Suns fans don't have to worry about losing him to a conference rival, and LeBron doesn't have to worry about calling Brooks his teammate. It's a win-win.
