Insane Dillon Brooks to Lakers rumor proves how far Suns have already come

Ridiculous.

The NBA trade deadline rumor mill always throws up some silly scenarios to generate clicks, and Dillon Brooks being linked with the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the most out there that we've seen this season.

There's simply no way this happens for a variety of reasons, and Bleacher Report only put the 29-year-old forward as a player they should trade for, there hasn't been any actual dialogue.

Brooks to Lakers shows how quickly Suns have turned situation around

But even though there is currently nothing to this suggestion, and the Suns would be crazy to do any kind of business with the Lakers, it shows the Suns are already for real this season.

They were given a hard time for trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for the package they received, even if he helped them on the way out, but Brooks wasn't even the best player they got back.

That would be Jalen Green, who has played about a half hour of competitive basketball since the playoffs last season. Brooks was the add-on, yet he's changed everything in the way the Lakers also need to be right now.

He cares about every game, takes it personal when going against certain players and is the perfect foil for Devin Booker. The Suns have won 20 games already this season, and they are on a trajectory straight into the postseason.

Brooks would also be the ideal fourth player to stick alongside LeBron James (imagine them two on the same roster), Luke Doncic and Austin Reaves.

But the Lakers don't have anything close to an enticing package to offer in return for Brooks, and even if they did he means too much to what the Suns are doing right now.

The fact this is even a conversation starter at all just proves Phoenix has moved away from the Durant era well, and although they have a lack of draft picks in the coming years, they're already further along in terms of winning than anybody could have predicted.

They're also beginning to get something out of their youngsters, but that is a conversation for another day. Brooks is also the perfect veteran for these guys, another reason other teams would want him.

The Lakers need a spark and Brooks provides a big bang immediately wherever he lands, so on paper it makes sense. Only the game isn't played on paper, and the Suns won't be dealing with the Lakers on this.
