The Phoenix Suns have emerged as a surprise candidate with reported interest in Chicago Bulls' point guard, in a move that makes a lot of sense in The Valley.
Giddey doesn't qualify as a major star acquisition, fits the timeline alongside Devin Booker and plays for an organization with a history of being on the wrong side of trades such as this one.
Addition of Giddey would mean Jalen Green has to go
But the 23-year-old would be joining a backcourt that right now does not have space for him to be a starter, which is what he would be as he is the perfect assist machine to pair next to Booker. Which is why it would spell the end of the road for Green after only one season with the franchise, but this reshuffle could end up working out in a big way for the Suns.
They just secured both Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin, a pair of brilliant early offseason moves, and that duo will be fighting to be the sixth man off the bench. They both work best when backing up a true floor general as well, which is what Giddey currently is and Green will never be.

But flipping the former Houston Rocket for other stuff would ensure the Suns bring more balance to a roster that is already competitive. Imagine a scenario in which head coach Jordan Ott has Booker, Giddey, Goodwin and Gillespie, plus one of Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale.
Add Dillon Brooks to the mix plus whatever Green could get them on the trade market, and all of a sudden you're looking at an actual player in the Western Conference.
There would still be much work to do, but adding Giddey at a time when the best in theory is still yet to come would be as exciting as it is unexpected. His reputation suffered because he was traded straight up for Alex Caruso, but that brought the Oklahoma City Thunder a title.
Their General Manager Sam Presti doesn't move like anybody else, while Giddey was then sent to a franchise that appears to be obsessed with making the play-in tournament each year.
Is there a lot to work on defensively? You bet, although much like Jalen Brunson with the New York Knicks (still with us here...), this Suns roster appears better equipped to deal with the shortcomings Giddey may have in that area.
It would also take the ball out of Booker's hands, and give him the first true point guard he's had since Chris Paul. Last time that happened, Phoenix was in the NBA Finals. One to pursue.
