The first domino of the 2026 NBA offseason has fallen, as the Phoenix Suns have unofficially re-signed point guard Collin Gillespie. The deal still needs to be formally signed, but Gillespie and the Suns appear to have landed on a four-year, $48 million deal.
In the process, Phoenix became one of the big winners of the 2026 offseason by re-signing a key player to a reasonable contract and ensuring that it aligns with Devin Booker's lucrative extension.
Gillespie was one of the breakout players of the 2025-26 season, making the leap from a two-way contract player to a key rotational cog on a playoff team. Free agency was thus going to be an eventful time for the former Villanova Wildcats standout, but Phoenix nipped that possibility in the bud.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Gillespie intends to sign a four-year, $48 million contract that will keep him in Phoenix through 2029-30.

Per Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, it's a fully guaranteed contract.
Collin Gillespie’s four-year, $48 million deal to return to Phoenix is fully guaranteed, sources say. Quite the well-deserved payday for the Villanova product after joining the Suns on a minimum salary last season.

For a Suns team that's about to start paying top dollar to its franchise player, signing Gillespie for an average of $12 million per season is a massive win.
Suns to re-sign Collin Gillespie to a four-year, $48 million deal
Devin Booker is already a highly compensated player, as he'll receive $57,078,728 in 2026-27 and $61,015,192 in 2027-28. He's owed $63,669,550 in 2028-29, however, and has a player option worth $68,763,114 for the 2029-30 season.
As such, the Suns desperately needed to protect their future with team-friendly contracts for high-quality players as cap flexibility inevitably became more difficult to sustain. The Gillespie deal accomplished exactly that.
Gillespie, 26, played a massive part in Phoenix changing its culture in 2025-26. He appeared in 80 games, starting 58 and emerging as a key contributor who shot the lights out, created for his teammates, and helped fuel a stronger commitment to defense than there was in 2024-25.
In the process, Gillespie averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 2.9 three-point field goals made per game on .418/.401/.874 shooting.
Gillespie will now return to Phoenix at a reasonable rate of $12 million per season. He'll be trusted to continue to shoot with elite volume and efficiency. For perspective: In 2025-26, Gillespie was one of just nine qualified players who averaged at least 2.5 three-point field goals made per game while shooting at least 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.
With Gillespie returning to Phoenix on a team-friendly deal that will carry into when Booker's extension kicks in, the Suns have protected their future.
