Suns should be thrilled by offseason coaching uncertainty around NBA

The NBA has not yet crowned a champion for the 2025-26 season, but that hasn't stopped all manner of organizations from chopping and changing their coaching staff.

The New Orleans Pelicans having just hired Jamahl Mosley, while the Portland Trail Blazers' own search appears to encompass anybody who has ever stood on the sidelines of a basketball court before.

Lack of Suns being mentioned is perfect for team's consistency

One name you will not have heard mentioned in all of this is the Phoenix Suns, and that is fantastic for their own steady growth. At a time when assistants from around the league are being tapped up about top jobs elsewhere, the Suns haven't been mentioned once.

They did their work last offseason, hiring Jordan Ott from the Cleveland Cavaliers and in doing so insuring that they don't have to be part of this manic period. Ott led the Suns to the playoffs, and his coaching staff looks like it is remaining intact as well.

Devin Booker went public during media availability after the season ended to praise coach Ott for the consistency he had brought to the organization, and that looks like a quality that several other teams are missing right now.

Their loss is the Suns' gain, and they are building a long-term project with their head coach leading the way that they hope will lead to success.

The Dallas Mavericks recently parted ways with Jason Kidd as well, a flashy name who has failed to truly work out anywhere he has gone.

Compare that to coach Ott, a well respected assistant both in Cleveland and Los Angeles with the Lakers and who is being given time by owner Mat Ishbia to bring his vision to life.

There will be no head turning in The Valley this summer, and instead the coaching staff and front office can work together to identify players to target. Bobby Portis perhaps? This might all seem obvious, but having a franchise on the same page from top to bottom is often anything but.

So while uncertainty sweeps through the league (and there are still four teams standing who could add to this depending on how badly their seasons end), the Suns are not taking part in the coaching changes that are taking place and are instead building quietly in the background.

A welcome departure from the previous two offseasons and one that will lead to success.
