Suns have clear silver lining to Devin Booker injury setback

Doesn't have to be all bad.

We already know that Devin Booker won't be available to face the Detroit Pistons after rolling his left ankle in the gutsy loss to the Miami Heat.

A defeat that starter their six-game road trip off on the wrong note, made worse by Booker having to leave the game late in the third. He did make it back onto the court during the fourth-quarter, giving his all to the cause as always.

Booker's absence gives coach Ott chance to show good he is

Obviously if the Suns want to make the playoffs this season (and they may make some moves to help reach that goal yet) then they need Booker to play as many games as possible.

Jalen Green is close to a return but is also being brought along slowly, yet this is actually a brilliant opportunity for head coach Jordan Ott to show us just how elite a mind he is.

Already this season he has managed to turn a Suns team many didn't believe could win 30 games into an above average unit on both ends of the court.

It's not just that they've teetered on elite defensively, coach Ott has managed to get the best out of this group when it comes to scoring the basketball. Numbers like these don't lie.

That Dillon Brooks, Collin Gillespie and Mark Williams are having career years is testament to how he has coached this group, while Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale now both have real trade value.

Turning to the guard tandem of Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea should never have worked, both were cast offs coming into this season, but coach Ott has again gotten the most out of players when it didn't look possible.

It will be fascinating to see how he creates an offensive scheme most likely led by Brooks, at least until Green is back in the picture.

Will Allen assume the role of secondary creator that we saw in flashes earlier in the campaign? There's a reason he remains a big fan of Isaiah Livers as well.

So yes the Suns will likely drop some games as long as Booker is unavailable, only it might not be as bad as you think. They're among the hardest playing teams in the league, a nightmare for opponents to break down.

That's not going to stop just because their best player is in street clothes. If anything they'll likely turn it up a notch. Combine that with some more funky offensive ideas, and the best could be yet to come from coach Ott.
