With the trade deadline inching ever closer, the thought process regarding the Phoenix Suns has been that they will stand pat and not mess up their great chemistry.
About the only player who it makes sense to move on from is backup center Nick Richards, and there's a perfect trade out there for his services.
Jake Fischer claims Suns could yet be buyers
If you're not checking in with NBA Insider Jake Fischer at this time of the year, then you really need to. He's generally on the money when a trade begins to come together, or is indeed just baseless speculation.
Suns fans, we've been there before this season. But his latest has an interesting development, which is that Phoenix may actually be in the business of trying to add a player at the deadline.
It’s January 15th!

The NBA Trade Deadline is just three Thursdays from now.

Why would they do this when they're playing with house money for the rest of this season? They have their head coach of the future in Jordan Ott, while The Valley is firmly back onside after the Kevin Durant mess.
Devin Booker has bought into what is going on, while Dillon Brooks is having a career year. We haven't even seen Jalen Green out there with this group properly yet, which makes being potential buyers an odd move.
Perhaps the front office have realized that this group is closer to being playoff regulars than we ever could have imagined, and it is not like they've got a reason to tank because of their lack of draft capital.
So going after a player who can help them win more games immediately as they push for the postseason makes sense, and the trade deadline looks like the perfect time to do it.
The Washington Wizards just got Trae Young for a pair of expiring contracts. Ja Morant isn't going to demand the haul he would have a couple of years ago either.
Then there is Jonathan Kuminga, who has now issued a "come and get me" plea from the Golden State Warriors. He's not the ideal fit in Phoenix he looked to be before the season.
Back then the franchise looked primed to take a massive step back and having Kuminga trying to secure a long-term payday and putting up big numbers was something you could talk yourself into.
But what if the Suns recognize that now is the time to buy low on his talent? They wouldn't even have to give up a whole lot in order to acquire him. Richards, Grayson Allen and a couple of seconds?
The smart money remains on the Suns doing nothing, but Fischer doesn't say these things for no reason or for engagement. We may get some real player movement yet.
