The Phoenix Suns might be about to enter a period in which they are not very good, but there are some upsides to being out of the championship picture for the next couple of seasons. As long as Devin Booker is happy - and he signed a contract extension this offseason - then the organization has the time to try new things in hopes of hitting it big.
One such tactic that they have already turned to is the NBA Draft, with three prospects heading to Phoenix this summer in Khaman Maluach, Koby Brea and Rasheer Fleming. Fans already more than willing to give them the time it will take to develop, even if that means losing a lot of games. Another strategy is identifying players who other teams are ready to give up on for different reasons.
Pacome Dadiet of the Knicks is a youngster to be targeted.
Which is why guard/forward Pacome Dadiet of the New York Knicks is a player the Suns have to be serious about trying to acquire. The 25th pick in the 2024 draft, the Frenchman is still only 20-years-old. Or put another way, two years younger than Brea and a year younger than Fleming having only turned 20 in July.
The reason the Knicks could be ready to part with him for next to nothing has become clear thanks to inside Jake Fischer, they're trying to get around the aprons that the Suns are all too familiar with and a prospect like Dadiet could be casualty of that fact. As Fischer also recently revealed, the Knicks may try and keep both former Suns player Landry Shamet, as well as Malcolm Brogdon.

The pair brought in on training camp deals, with the expectation being that one would be cut before the season started. But New York could actually keep both, while they are also reported to have some interest in center Thomas Bryant. All of these are necessary additions when you are trying to win a championship - improving by one-percent around the fringes - leaving no room for Dadiet.
If ever there was a situation to see if he could be anything in the league, it is surely in Phoenix this coming season. There will be some minutes to go around - even with three rookies plus Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro on the roster - and the front office needs to unearth some hidden gems to accelerate this rebuild.
Even if Dadiet doesn't amount to anything and eventually heads back to Europe, it's not like it would cost a lot to find out either. The Knicks can't take on any more money or players as they fill out their own team, and so a pair of second rounders for what was a late first that hasn't had much of a chance to impress might just get this one done.
