The Phoenix Suns might have had a bad offseason in the eyes of many, but the reality is they did what they needed to in order to move on around Devin Booker. The 28-year-old is once again the focal point in The Valley - and although there are going to be more losses than wins next season - fans feel like they've got their team back as well.
Now is the perfect time for the Suns to take a chance on prospects who need a change of scenery, or indeed players who have failed to work out at different stops. It's why they can make moves such as this one, knowing that finding diamonds in the rough while they take a step back could accelerate their journey back to the top.
Forgotten Landry Shamet getting final chance with New York Knicks.
One former player who certainly won't be back in Phoenix anytime soon is Landry Shamet. The 3-point marksman with a painfully weak defensive game instead getting a chance to play his way onto a roster once more having been brought back by the New York Knicks. The same organization that had him last season, and where he had a couple of notable playoff moments for them.
LANDRY SHAMET! Dude was ready for the moment hit big shots in the playoffs, got injured preseason and worked so to get back, on ball defense is amazing too. Unless we can get Malcolm brogdon for the same price, I’d take landry over any one else https://t.co/vroc4lIP8h

There is no guarantee Shamet is going to get the last spot in New York - he's likely battling Malcolm Brogdon for the position - but fans in The Valley might just be cheering him on to succeed. Much as he had run his course with the team - and much like Cameron Payne as well - Shamet had a couple of strong performances from deep for the Suns from 2021-23.
The issue with him staying on the court because he was picked on defensively, but nobody can question his heart and desire on that end. Still only 28-years-old, Shamet might just have been the perfect veteran player for this younger Suns group. He also would have cost a fraction of what Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale do, although both of those are much better players on both ends.
The time to explore that avenue has come and gone, and so the Knicks realistically represent Shamet's last stand in the league. It is ideal that their roster is well suited to having him come off the bench, get hot from beyond the arc and then disappear again at several points throughout a game. Perhaps the streaky shooter can prove he belongs on a contender again after all.
