The Phoenix Suns look exactly what most predicted them to be this season, and that is a rebuilding outfit. Although Devin Booker has tried to do it all offensively right out the gate for his team - when he sits - the Suns are immediately in trouble. The situation hasn't been much better on the defensive end, which is where head coach Jordan Ott said they were going to build their identity.
Despite having center Mark Williams available for all bar one game so far, the only team allowing more points to be scored against them each night is the Brooklyn Nets. That is unacceptable and has to change, and bringing Oso Ighodaro off the bench and putting a stop to him at the five would seem a great place to start.
Stage is set for a Jalen Green redemption arc in Phoenix.
One player who has been absent through the lows so far this season is 23-year-old Jalen Green. The former Houston Rocket nursing a hamstring issue, having not missed a single game for his former team in two full seasons including the playoffs prior to being part of the Kevin Durant trade. Green will be back any game now, and the situation has never been better for him despite doing nothing.

The Suns have been so bad defensively - and so out of ideas with the ball in hand - that anything he can bring will be viewed as a success. Starting with the offensive end and where you would expect Green to have the bigger impact, and if he can take any sort of pressure off Booker at all, that will be huge.
Coach Ott will surely split their minutes on the court so that the team doesn't fall off a cliff production wise when Booker sits, while the tandem of both can surely only go in one direction now as well. For all the concerns of how the pair would fit together before the season started, the fact Green can create his own shot and will allow Booker to be a scorer first on certain possessions will be huge.
You would think there would be nothing Green could do to boost the defense, and that is mostly correct. But the Suns have been so bad already, that they couldn't get much worse. Even if they do somehow fall further with Green on the court - as long as there's a notable offensive improvement - the coaching staff will live with that trade off.
It would be different if the team had started the campaign league average defensively, and if Brooks had been a man possessed every night. Only he's also been out with injury, and there isn't the height or two-way talent to shut any opponents down. Which is exactly the kind of situation Green wants to be entering, where there are no defensive expectations.
Which is why this injury was a blessing in disguise for him personally. He's going to return to the lineup soon and give a huge boost to the fans and his teammates. All he has to do is take some shots away from Brooks and alleviate the pressure on Booker and everybody will go crazy. Manage to steal a couple of wins, and a statue outside the arena will surely be on the way.
