The Phoenix Suns have a Grayson Allen problem, in that the elite 3-point shooter never seems to be healthy when the team needs him most.
This season was no different, as he missed the majority of their playoff sweep through injury. The last time they were in the playoffs prior to that versus the Minnesota Timberwolves? Same story.
Gradey Dick would be perfect Allen replacement in Phoenix
Which makes the prospect of adding Gradey Dick from the Toronto Raptors this offseason an intriguing one, because he is clearly available.
The 22-year-old showing flashes throughout his first two seasons in Canada, including going 35 percent of better from beyond the arc.
Interesting tidbit in here on the Raptors maybe trading Gradey Dick. He could be worth looking at as a "second draft" guy for a team that needs shooting. Showed signed of being a rotation wing shooter in his first two years before cratering this season. Shouldn't cost much as… https://t.co/q0fEF1yDJf

Year three was a different story however, and he was left out of the Raptors' rotation for a series versus the Cleveland Cavaliers that surprisingly went seven games.
Toronto now has players such as Jamal Shead, Collin Murray-Boyles and A.J. Lawson who have overtaken him in the rotation, while he is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2026-27.
The Raptors are paying Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, Immanuel Quickley and R.J. Barrett over $140 million alone next season, so extending Dick makes no sense.
Which is why trading him straight up for Royce O'Neale could work, although the Suns may even be able to convince the Raptors to throw in a second round pick.
The Raptors get a veteran who can help them for two seasons on a team-friendly contract (never more than $11 million a year), while the Suns can try Dick out for a season and then figure it out.
They would also then have the impetus to pursue a trade for Allen, although talk of Aaron Gordon appears well wide of the mark.
Making this even more interesting would be if the Suns allow Mark Williams to walk having not extended him, which in turn could create more cap space to bring Dick back down the line.
Not that he is a can't miss prospect who has suddenly become available, but Allen has proven how valuable his skills are when he is healthy.
To get a player who looks like he could shoot over 40 percent from deep and could also improve in head coach Jordan Ott's defensive setup would be an unexpected boost this offseason.
The fact he can be a long-term fit next to Devin Booker makes this idea even better, while O'Neale's trade value isn't likely to be much higher than a young player who needs a change of scenery anyway.
The Suns exceeded expectations this season, and now it is about building on that by identifying talent this is not being used properly elsewhere. Gradey Dick fits that criteria.
