Suns surprisingly linked with trade for Nuggets star this offseason

Struggling to understand this one.

The Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets now share something in common this offseason, both have been eliminated from playoff contention.

But whereas the Suns exceeded expectations this season and are unlikely to see much roster turnover this summer, the same cannot be said for the championship or bust Nuggets.

Suns surprisingly rumored to be interested in Aaron Gordon

Which made Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints saying that the Suns could be interested in trading for Gordon this offseason a surprising one to read.

There's actually a lot to unpack here, which could lead us to the conclusion that this may be Gordon's agent drumming up interest in his services more than anything else.

The major stumbling block here is what Phoenix would have to give up to make the money work, and it would revolve around Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and some second round picks.

That's a lot to give up for a player who tends to be injured at the worst possible times, although so too does Allen so perhaps that is not the drawback it appears.

Why the Nuggets would want such little draft capital back is anybody's guess, while the veteran duo don't exactly move the needle if you're giving up Gordon.

The main appeal of the 30-year-old is his ability to defend elite scorers, rebound with the best of them and make big shots when required. He can even create some for the team as well.

Denver needs to make changes and Gordon is likely the guy who has got to go, but the Suns don't have the package or perhaps even the reasoning to get a deal done.

Gordon may have played his college ball in Arizona, but isn't Dillon Brooks a similar kind of player? One who the franchise may not want to extend, but likely isn't going anywhere this summer.

Having the two of them on the same roster doesn't make sense, and neither does trading Brooks for Green either.

He would be exactly what the Nuggets need with how seriously he takes every game, but the Suns would be crazy to think Gordon is an upgrade on that.

If there was a way to get Gordon to The Valley for next to nothing while also keeping Brooks, then sure. He does just feel like a Suns player.

But the more likely outcome here is the Suns and several other teams being used to jack up the price to ensure the Nuggets and Gordon find a situation that works for everybody.
