The Phoenix Suns have made a lot of moves this offseason, but that doesn't mean that they are done yet. With no fewer than nine new faces through the door - and the franchise no longer in the first or second aprons thanks to the buyout of Bradley Beal - there is time and flexibility to make other moves.
The introduction of Koby Brea might just have made this veteran expendable, while you could make the case that the Suns should add another shooting guard to put alongside Devin Booker and Jalen Green, as long as this free agent is available at the right price. The team does still need a point guard to run the show, and we know it won't be Chris Paul as he has reunited with the L.A. Clippers.
Suns need to stay as far away from Ben Simmons as possible.
Marc Stein took to his always informative Stein Line substack recently - and as has so often been the case since the offseason began - the Suns featured. Not only were they interested in Marcus Smart - who ultimately went to the Los Angeles Lakers - but with the former Boston Celtic now off the board, there is rumored to have been some dialogue with Ben Simmons and his camp.
That would be a dreadful idea, although there is no need to panic just yet. Perhaps the Suns are simply putting that out there so as to alert other point guards that they are looking to fill the role in The Valley soon. There's only so many spots to go around in the league, and for what it is worth John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports believes there's no truth to the Simmons links.
For the many that are asking - no the Suns do not have interest in Ben Simmons.

This is important, because Gambadoro has been on the money about a lot of goings on in Phoenix recently. It is also a welcome change of pace from believing that the front office - who were making moves like this at the deadline last season - aren't just charging into another disaster having cut ties with Beal.
Despite needing a point guard, Simmons hasn't been the same player as the former All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year candidate that he was with the Philadelphia 76ers in years. If he was coming to the Suns on a minimum deal - and as backup at the one - that would be a scenario you could talk yourself into.
The Suns are also not going to win a championship next season - and although you could view that as a reason to see if they could get anything out of Simmons - that is not the right approach. They can use this opportunity to find a longer-term solution for the role, while also hopefully finding the kind of veterans who can bring their young players along.
General Manager Brian Gregory certainly bought himself some time with how he managed to get some players of value back for Kevin Durant, but the jury is still out on him early in his tenure. Just when it looks like the organization is committing to building around Booker, another worrying rumor like this emerges. They must stay away from Simmons at all costs.
