If there is one area the Phoenix Suns seamlessly upgraded over the offseason and throughout the campaign so far, it is the point guard position.

The franchise now having legitimate depth in the form of Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin and even Jamaree Bouyea.

Magic desperate to get rid of former Suns guard Tyus Jones

Spare a thought for Tyus Jones down in Florida though, as the Orlando Magic seemingly can't wait to get rid of the guys, less than a year after he jumped ship from The Valley to Disneyland. Ouch.

It has not worked out at all for the 29-year-old, despite looking like the ideal floor general for a Magic roster that has lacked that in recent seasons.

Jones was also supposed to plug the same hole in Phoenix alongside Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, and you could argue to some degree he did what he was supposed to.

He was never going to be a plus defender and he managed 5.3 assists in his lone season there, the second highest mark of his career.

Despite looking like the ideal backup throughout his career (outside of a stint with the Washington Wizards), too often he started and was expected to do more than he was comfortable with for the Suns.

It is almost ironic that he would be a better fit on this version of the roster, with head coach Jordan Ott having built a much more cohesive defensive unit.

This would have masked the flaws of Jones on that end, while Mark Williams and even Khaman Maluach could have been feasting on easy baskets.

That's not to say the Suns should have any interest here, they might end up surprising fans and being buyers but it won't be for Jones. They've completely upgraded their depth at that position.

But it is sad for a player who backed himself to have a deep playoff run in The Valley and then parlay that into getting a longer-term deal for more money elsewhere, with neither really happening.

Jones will land elsewhere and in certain situations he can help, while this remains another win for General Manager Brian Gregory and the front office.

The transition away from Durant wasn't supposed to be this smooth, but instead it is other former players such as Jones and Chris Paul who are struggling, while the Suns continue to make an impressive push for the playoffs.
