Josh Giddey would give Suns crucial skill we haven't seen since 2021 NBA Finals

There's a reason Phoenix is supposedly interested.

The Phoenix Suns appearing to have some interest in Chicago Bulls' point guard Josh Giddey caught many by surprise, not least those who are fans of Jalen Green and want him to remain in The Valley.

Surely those two players can't be on the same roster and co-exist alongside Devin Booker, which is why it could be curtains for Green if there is any truth to these rumors.

Giddey is the floor general the Suns need to pair with Booker

Not since the 2021 NBA Finals when the franchise had a backcourt of Booker and Chris Paul have the Suns had the right balance across their guard duo, and the addition of Giddey would bring that back. The Suns need to get the ball out of Booker's hands some, and Giddey could be the provider in a way that Green never will.

We know how the movie ends with Booker and Green in tandem, and it will be much the same way as when Bradley Beal was in town. A pair of score first twos who take turns trying to tee the others up, which ultimately goes nowhere.

In his first season in Phoenix and despite being eight years younger, Green also exhibited the worst trait of Beal's time with the organization. An inability to stay on the court for long stretches as a result of injury.

Giddey is no ironman, he managed 54 games last season to Green's 32, but in those appearances racked up a whopping 9.1 assists each night. Easily a career high, and that came on a Bulls roster that moved on from both Nikola Vucevic and Ayo Dosunmu midseason.

Put another way and Giddey had 494 assists in just over half a season, the second best output of his career (503 in 70 games the previous year in Chicago). Goran Dragic's 2012-13 campaign in which he dished out 569 assists in 77 games is currently the 25th best single season mark in franchise history.

You get the idea then, that given a full season and with Booker, Dillon Brooks and even Grayson Allen for teammates, Giddey would be the perfect player to have in their backcourt.

One who would have the help of the newly re-signed Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin, who can take some of the tougher defensive assignments out of his hands. There are many reasons that Suns team made the finals in 2021, and having a true point guard was one of them.

That is what Josh Giddey is, and the Suns need him in The Valley ASAP.
