The news we all wanted to hear.

The Phoenix Suns have gone straight from their media day to training camp ahead of a preseason trip to Macau, and the vibes have been high around the practice facility. Rookie Khaman Maluach has been bringing the energy early - as well as a unique nickname - while Dillon Brooks already has a villainous sidekick in the building with him.

But if you've been paying attention to the content that the franchise have been putting out on social media - and you better believe it is all approved before it goes anywhere - then you would have noticed that one of the offseason's new recruits has not been seen on the court. That would be center Mark Williams, the often-injured big man who came over from the Charlotte Hornets.

Jordan Ott confirms Williams is not injured in huge boost.

Naturally on the second day of camp head coach Jordan Ott was asked about the absence of Williams from the court - although he was present at media day - and the answer was an excellent one for The Valley. On the surface at least, as coach Ott confirmed to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic that Williams is currently not injured.

Case closed right? Not exactly, as Ott had to be really pressed by Rankin to confirm whether or not Williams was injured, and he didn't seem comfortable saying it either. It is easy to sit at home and dissect the wording and facial expressions of somebody over and over, but there was a sense of unease from Ott when Williams came up.

Contrast that with moments earlier, when you could literally see the fire and excitement in his eyes when he spoke about how competitive scrimmage had been. Ott was also intentional in his wording by revealing that Williams had put in a ton of work all summer, and that he had been doing great strength and mobility work.

That all sounds great - only when it comes to a 23-year-old with the injury history that Williams already has - it isn't nearly as encouraging. What it actually sounds like is a player working their way back from injury, which again Ott maintains is not happening. The regular season is a month away, and the Suns would surely rather have their center being a defensive presence and not stretching.

Perhaps the biggest giveaway that this update - which is still brilliant if taken at face value - is not what it seems was when Ott mentioned that the first day of camp had been about putting in place their principles on both ends of the court. Day two had a little bit of action, before letting them go at it for scrimmage.

If Williams wasn't even out on the court when they were presumably walking through plays or concepts - at a time when no actual action was taking place - it is hard not to be concerned about what that could mean moving forward. We're choosing to believe that Williams is on track to appear at camp soon, but it is very much watch this space right now.
