Fans of the Phoenix Suns finally got a chance to hear from a completely remade roster at their media day on Wednesday, and there was lots to like. Devin Booker is back and as focused as ever, claiming he has "unfinished business" in The Valley, while owner Mat Ishbia took ownership of the shortcomings of the last two seasons.
Although Kevin Durant has left town for the Houston Rockets, this was a day that drew a line in the sand on that era as the younger players spoke excitedly about the future. Many were eager to hear from lottery pick Khaman Maluach - the 10th overall selection this summer and who came to Phoenix as part of the Durant trade - and the 19-year-old did not disappoint.
Maluach's enthusiasm to learn has impressed new teammates.
While on the podium addressing the media, Maluach confirmed why his nickname is "Man-Man", appeared genuinely excited by the challenges ahead and would go on to drop the below quote about his attitude towards learning something every day. If that holds true - then although there are surely going to be some tough moments this coming season - the center prospect will come good.

Another common theme about the South Sudanese prospect that was apparent was how his new teammates spoke about him. Guys like Nick Richards commenting on how much energy he has had every day so far, while Grayson Allen marvelled at his defensive communication for a youngster with such few reps compared to many of the guys he is now playing with.
Really though it is that willingness to learn - and accept that he still has so much to learn - that will be the making of Maluach with the Suns. We've already put forward the idea that he will spend time in the G League this coming season, and when that happens it should not be viewed as a negative. Getting reps in all areas of the organization will only help his game.
It is also clear from the way he speaks that Maluach will have no problem coming off the bench to begin life in the league. The Suns traded for Mark Williams to be their starting big - and although a high lottery pick joining a rebuilding team might expect to get thrown straight into the deep end - that won't be the case in Phoenix with Maluach.
The flashes we saw from him were encouraging, but also highlighted just how much room to grow there is for the big man, particularly on the offensive end. At the time he didn't interact with the media much in Las Vegas - but having gotten a feel for how he is approaching his role with the Suns - it is safe to say the franchise got themselves a good one. A media day to remember for Maluach.
