Should the Phoenix Suns be concerned that the best offensive player they got back in a Kevin Durant trade is being plagued by a hamstring issue at only 23-years-old?

It certainly has put a negative spin on what has been an amazing season to this point, but that's unfortunately the reality of having Jalen Green on this roster right now.

Green needs to change playing style to stay on court in Phoenix

The former Houston Rocket managed just four minutes of game time in the recent loss to the Atlanta Hawks, before exiting the game after another flare up of his hamstring problem.

Head coach Jordan Ott confirmed this was a cautionary move, but there was no sign of Green in the subsequent loss to the Miami Heat either.

We are now reaching a point, for the remainder of this season at least, where the Suns need Green to change how he is playing to ensure he can stay on the court for this team.

We know he's got freak athleticism and can jump over anybody, only his style of play this season continues to lead to injury problems.

The sample size of four games is tiny for this season, but Green has shot a sizzling 42.1 percent from deep on 4.8 attempts each night.

That is a career high in makes but the lowest efforts we have ever seen from him, and it is the key to prolonging this current season for the player before figuring the rest out later.

Asking Green to stay away from the paint and exploding to the rim is difficult because we know he is capable of doing that. But let's see him get a run of games together while taking most of his shots from the midrange and beyond please.

That is counter-productive to what the Suns should be trying to do long-term, while there is no doubt he will also get in the way of Devin Booker in changing his style.

But it needs to be done in order for Green to put these worrying hamstring issues behind him, particularly given he didn't miss a single game (regular season or playoffs) in the two seasons prior to this one.

There is no need to panic yet, Green is still so young and issues like this one crop up for players all of the time. But if the Suns want to make the postseason they need him out there, and preserving his body as much as possible is the way to do that for the rest of this campaign.
