Phoenix Suns point guard Collin Gillespie has a golden opportunity to cap off a breakout 2025-26 season by taking over a franchise record that has stood for more than two decades.

With nine regular season games remaining, Gillespie has cashed in 220 3-pointers at a sterling 41.9% clip. If he converts just seven more long range looks over the remaining nine contests, he’ll eclipse Quentin Richardson’s franchise record of 226 3-point makes in a single season set back in 2004-05.

At various points throughout the 2025-26 season, it appeared as though teammates Grayson Allen — who’s tied for third in franchise history with Raja Bell for his 205 3-point knockdowns in 2023-24 — or Royce O’Neale would flirt with Q’s record. But Gillespie’s consistency from deep and his ability to stay healthy throughout the 82-game grind proved the difference.

Now, he’s put himself in a great position to etch his name into Suns’ lore.

Despite the Suns as a team joining the league-wide trend by breaking franchise records for team 3-point makes in a season, Richardson’s individual mark remained unscathed. Barring injury, that looks primed to change.

Collin Gillespie’s 3-point stats put him among league’s best

To this point in the season, 69% of Gillespie’s points have come from beyond the arc. He’s proven throughout the season that if opponents leave him open, he’s going to make them pay.

According to NBA.com data, Gillespie is shooting 43.9% on treys considered “wide open” (a defender being six-plus feet away). On 3-point attempts considered “open” (a defender within four to six feet), Gillespie converts 44.5% of the time.

He’s also among the best shooters in basketball on catch-and-shoot attempts from beyond the arc.

Among shooters who’ve played at least 10 games and attempt at least two 3-pointers per contest, only Blake Hinson of the Utah Jazz (51.1%), Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves (50.4%) and Luke Kennard of the Los Angeles Lakers (48.9%) have been better than Gillespie’s 48.8% 3-point shooting in catch-and-shoot situations, according to NBA.com.

When his teammates find him in situations where he can simply catch the pass and put a shot up, Gillespie’s converting nearly half the time. That type of efficiency is rarely seen outside of NBA2K.

Gillespie has made eight 3-pointers in a game twice this season, and converted five or more triples in a game on 12 different occasions. The Villanova product has failed to make a 3-point shot just five times all season.

It’s been a remarkable shooting display from a guy the Suns should look to re-sign this offseason when Gillespie becomes a free agent.

If Collin sets a new Suns 3-point record and leaves this summer, he’d join Q in suiting up for a team outside The Valley after doing so.

It’s safe to say Suns fans don’t want to see that happen again.
