Devin Booker trade talk needs to be shut down before offseason even begins

Just stop.

No, Devin Booker is not going to be traded this offseason. That’s it, that’s the story. You can stop reading now.

But that’s not going to stop all manner of baseless rumors coming out about the 29-year-old’s future, despite the fact the Phoenix Suns surpassed all expectations this season.

Booker remains happy with project being built in The Valley

The greatest player in Suns’ history was quick to praise first year head coach Jordan Ott when speaking to the media in the aftermath of being eliminated from the playoffs, an immediate indicator of his happiness.

Booker spent one season with both Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer, and to use the word “stability” in describing coach Ott sure feels like going to bat for the organization and publicly acknowledging that hiring Ott was the right move.

Which made these pieces that surfaced immediately after the Suns were eliminated appear even more ridiculous than they already should have been. Why would Booker ask for a trade away from The Valley at this point?

Bradley Beal might have ideas about his former teammate’s future, but right now Booker has the best of every world. A massive contract that he has earned and the unwavering support of the fanbase.

Expectations remain modest after the failed Kevin Durant experiment, so much so that being swept in Round 1 can still feel like the positive that it clearly is.

Then there is the uglier side to all of this. Whisper it quietly, but this may be the peak of Booker’s powers. Dillon Brooks sure had a bigger impact on both ends of the court in more than one game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Yet he still gets to take the final shot whenever he wants, still gets to be the franchise cornerstone and a result of his loyalty will be back by the fanbase and front office alike.

To give up all of that at this young age is foolish, while any potential trade that could happen down the line could be framed as owner Mat Ishbia letting Booker go to pursue a championship elsewhere so that he can finish his own story.

The Suns aren’t there yet, they are well ahead of schedule and Booker would be crazy to think jumping ship now would lead to success. Just ask Beal and Durant how that worked out for them.

Zero rings currently to show for it and a reputation with several fan bases that has been damaged. Maybe they don’t care, but Phoenix has always meant more to Booker than the average star. He’s going nowhere this summer, so let’s not even talk about it.
