No chill even in retirement.

Chris Paul most certainly did not get the send off he deserved as he officially retired just before the All-Star break, although the Phoenix Suns were right not to get involved.

Not that the 40-year-old has taken a step back from the national spotlight since calling it a career, and he has now taken aim at Luka Doncic.

Paul blasts Doncic's lack of defense

Paul was appearing on Carmelo Anthony's "7pm in Brooklyn" podcast, and the question of who Paul would rather having running the point guard position between Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander came up.

The future Hall of Fame floor general had zero hesitation in picking "SGA", although it is worth noting that the pair played together for the Oklahoma City Thunder for one season.

Paul has always gone to bat for former teammates he has gotten along with, with Devin Booker being another example whenever his name has been brought up.

If anything Paul saying the San Antonio Spurs were the best organization he ever played for hurt The Valley more than it had any right to.

Back to the question at hand and Paul claimed that players want to see their superstars at least try and defense, and that this is what gets them going and brings a group closer together.

Paul obviously saw Gilgeous-Alexander put in the work during the time they spent together, although he's not in the same league as his former teammate when he was at his peak.

Paul putting together some of the most impressive seasons ever for a smaller player, most notably with the L.A. Clippers, thanks to his elite IQ.

It also would not be hard to be a better defensive player than Doncic, who when locked in is average at best. It's part of the reason the Los Angeles Lakers need more of this from Deandre Ayton.

Doncic also has a habit of running up other stars the wrong way with his antics, with Booker and the Suns having been on the receiving end of some brutal defeats at the hands of the Slovenian in the past.

As for who we would pick between the two in Phoenix? Give us Gilgeous-Alexander, but that's only because the fit next to Booker makes more sense.

He would allow the franchise cornerstone to get back to being the elite scorer that he is, while Doncic would try and do a lot of what Booker does already.

Not that the Suns are going to have this problem anytime soon, they can't even get their own players to stay healthy, but we agree with Paul on this one.
