We've been showing a lot of love to Chris Paul around these parts recently, and with good reason. The "Point God" was not given the retirement he deserves, and is a Phoenix Suns legend.
The franchise was also right not to give him the farewell tour that the L.A. Clippers cruelly took away from him, and now Paul has failed to repay Phoenix when presented with the chance to do so.
Paul names Spurs as best organization he played for
The 40-year-old was appearing on The Tylil Show (man, I am old...) and over the course of the video he walked past a framed gift that the San Antonio Spurs gave him during the season he spent there.
Paul made a point of stopping and admiring the piece, before going on to say that the Spurs were "my best organization I played for." This seems harsh on the Suns, but there's more going on here.
This wasn't exactly said in the heat of the moment, but the manner in which the Clippers shipped him off to the Toronto Raptors (who he never played for) because they didn't want him anymore surely still things.
It also robbed a future Hall of Fame player of finishing out their career somewhat on their own terms, even if he wasn't going to get a ring.
There's actually a way that the Suns can help with that, which is by bringing him in as a coach if he decides that is a route he wants to go down.
Back to the here and now though, and the Suns feel like a casualty of the feud between Paul and the Clippers.
The Valley is the only team that he reached the NBA Finals with, and his time in Phoenix included an obvious friendship with Devin Booker in which he mentored him as well.
He got the best out of teammates like Deandre Ayton and even Bismack Biyombo, and the fans loved him as well. Paul will one day go in the Ring of Honor.
Whereas he only spent a season in San Antonio, and although he did get to play alongside Victor Wembanyama, it didn't lead to an extended playoff run of any kind.
Paul is also likely alluding to the first class organization that the Spurs have been for the entirety of this century, again another dig at the Clippers for being everything they are not.
So we're going to choose not to take this one too personally, because Paul will always mean so much to basketball in Phoenix and the love from both sides is clear. Just choose your words more carefully next time Chris...
