Bleacher Report names Suns’ best fit for fifth starter

Since Bradley Beal was traded to the Phoenix Suns, the whole offseason has been trying to figure out who will be the team’s fifth starter. Now, we have an idea of who would fit and who we want to be the guy, but no one really knows.

When new head coach Frank Vogel was asked about any iterations we could see, he kept his answer simple and about what we expected. Vogel stated that he thinks the guy that fits the best for that game could be a ton of different guys that day.

That’s the answer you’d expect from any coach, especially far before the season starts.

Many people think that player will be Josh Okogie, and it very well could. That makes sense, considering Okogie is a defensive guy who can guard the opposing team’s best wing so that Booker, Beal, and Durant don’t have to. He has done it plenty of times before.

We have all seen that clip of him locking down James Harden, and while that was a few years ago, the Suns are hoping he can do that every now and then.

There is another guy that makes a ton of sense, though, that not a lot of people are thinking about besides Bleacher Report. Here is what BR said about the Sun’s potential fifth starter:

“Watanabe could be the cleanest fit with the Suns’ stars, though, as the things he does well—defense, hustle, and corner-three splashing—should perfectly complement Phoenix’s best players.”

Watanabe had an amazing FIBA World Cup, where he had a few games in which he showed to be an efficient scorer and a heck of a defender. That’s what the Suns need, and a guy who can do the dirty work and hit that corner three occasionally, as Bleacher Report said.

Watanabe could get that spot in some games, and I wouldn’t be upset if he did. He has proved what he can do.
