The Phoenix Suns swung for the fence during the 2021-22 season, but found themselves hanging from it by their underwear come playoff time. Having lost to the Dallas Mavericks in a way that gave new meaning to the word “embarrassing,” the team entered the 2022 offseason with a far greater sense of urgency in improving the roster than the one prior.

The Phoenix front office first and foremost opened its wallet to lock up Deandre Ayton long term. The Suns also brought in defensive plug Josh Okogie, recently crowned NBA champion Damion Lee, and versatile big man Jock Landale.

Even with Kevin Durant now unlikely to make his way to The Valley, the team looks better equipped to perform in the future than they did prior to the offseason’s opening.

However, with those new signings, a few players from Phoenix’s 2021-22 squad slipped through the cracks, as they now find themselves linked up with new teams. The Suns did not retain backup point guard Aaron Holiday, glue guy Frank Kaminsky, and a certain center who joined the very team which sent Phoenix fishing a few months ago.

A few other former Suns found new homes as well even despite being well removed from their playing days in Phoenix.

All in all, a wide variety of both recent and distant Suns will wear new threads during the 2022-23 campaign. Looking at their skillsets and how they might apply to what’s now around them, these three ex-Suns have the best chance to make some noise with their new teams.
