Hill – Lopez

Grant Hill* – When the Phoenix Suns signed Grant Hill in 2007 he was supposed to be done. Spending the majority of the prior seven seasons injured (all with the Orlando Magic), Hill was never supposed to be able to make a significant impact in the NBA again. By 2009-10, he was already one of the league’s best role players, the Suns’ starting small forward who was almost never injured. Following the 2011-12 season, the only season of his five-year tenure in Phoenix in which he spent significant time nursing injuries (he missed 33 total games), he signed with the Clippers, appearing in 29 games in 2012-13 at the age of 40 before retiring – eventually being selected for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Dwayne Jones* – Did you know that Dwayne Jones played for the Phoenix Suns in 2009-10? He signed to a ten-day contract in April 2010, eventually signing for the remainder of the season and playoffs, appearing in two regular season games and two first round playoff games all in very limited minutes. Jones would be traded that offseason to the Toronto Raptors with Leandro Barbosa for Hedo Turkoglu. Eventually waived, he was signed and waived by both the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors between 2011 and 2013, his last NBA appearance was with the Suns in the 2010 playoffs.

Robin Lopez – Like Taylor and Blake Griffin, the Phoenix Suns drafted the wrong Lopez brother in 2008 taking Robin after twin Brook was selected ahead of him. However, 2009-10 was yet again another breakout season for a Phoenix Suns player as Robin showed tremendous scoring ability when around the basket, shooting an astounding 58.8% from the field, to this day still his career-high. Lopez would play for Phoenix for another two seasons with diminishing results and he was not offered a contract extension following the conclusion of his rookie deal. He signed with the New Orleans Hornets in 2012-13 where he would have a bit of a renaissance year before finding continual decent success with Portland, the Knicks, and three years with the Chicago Bulls. In July of this year, Brook signed a two-year exception contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, putting him on the same team as his brother Brook Lopez for the first time since the two played for the Stanford Cardinal from 2006-08.
