Acquire another 2021 first round pick

There is one additional move that could excite Suns fans a tremendous amount if it occurred on draft day, even if the result of the trade wouldn’t be realized for at least three seasons.

While the Miami Heat’s 2021 unprotected first round pick has always been a subject of great interest to Suns fans since it’s acquisition, it’s value has seemingly grown since the report that the one-and-done rule might be gone by the 2021 draft, meaning that with a potential influx of non-collegiate talent added to the mix of college one-and-dones, and regardless of where the Heat’s pick lands, there might be tremendous value.

Of course every team in the league knows this which further heightens the value of every pick in that draft. Yet at the same time, some teams still might want picks sooner rather than later, or players currently on the Suns’ roster, that McDonough can parlay into a first round pick in 2021, which if nothing else, could possibly be packaged together with either Miami’s pick and/or the Suns’ own first rounder, for an even better pick in what could be a tremendously deep draft.

While this final scenario might be the least exciting draft day event on Thursday, when paired with the selection of Deandre Ayton and any other moves the Suns might make, it still would add to the intrigue.

Then if that pick turns out to help Phoenix make the best possible selection in the first round of 2021, that might make this year’s draft the greatest in franchise history.
