The Phoenix Suns have only been using one of their two-way contracts, but the clubs’ front office should give Alec Peters a look as well.

All Phoenix Suns fans know how Mike James is the poster child of the new NBA two-way contract. However, it seems that the fans and the Suns’ front office have all but forgotten about the team’s other two-way contract in Alec Peters. While with the Northern Arizona Suns, Peters has put together a solid season. With that in mind, Phoenix should try to get him more than the occasional leftover playing time at the end of games. Peters needs a legit shot to prove his NBA worth.

In nine games with the NAZ Suns, Peters has averaged 34.6 minutes, 18.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor and 42.0 percent from behind the 3-point line. Out of all the Phoenix Suns full time power forwards, Peters may have the best shooting stroke. Peter’s numbers are against lesser competition than Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss play against, which isn’t a fair scale to compare the three stretch forwards.

Comparing the three players’ NBA stats would be pointless, because Peters has only played in two games with Phoenix and only averaged seven minutes during that span. However one out of the two games he played in with Phoenix, he saw 11 minutes of actions against the Portland Trail Blazers. In that game, Peters had three points, three rebounds and one block while shooting 50 percent from both the field and 3-point line. Peters has potential which can been seen when he plays with the NAZ Suns.

Based on the scoring barrage seen above, the franchise needs to get him more playing in Phoenix to see what he can actually bring to the team’s future.

With Chriss playing uninspired basketball and Bender still too raw to take on big minutes, the franchise should have an in-depth evaluation of Alec Peters. When the Phoenix Suns figure out their roster situation, then they should take advantage of Peters’ two-way contract and give him another chance at playing time with more consistent minutes.
