With the way restricted free agent market is turning out this summer, it would be best for center Alex Len to sign the Phoenix Suns qualifying offer.
It is very doubtful that the Phoenix Suns are in line to make any major moves this offseason. Beyond drafting two-wing Josh Jackson, Phoenix has done little to improve the existing roster. The team just needs to fill out the rest of the roster. The Suns also need to figure out how they want to approach restricted free agent Alex Len. Instead of waiting on the Suns, Len needs to sign his qualifying offer and bet on himself.

The restricted free agent market has not been kind to players this offseason. Len does not want to end up like Shabazz Muhammad or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Muhammad had his rights renounced by the Minnesota Timberwolves and is still without a team. Caldwell-Pope also had his rights renounced by the Detroit Pistons, but he signed a big one year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. There is not enough money left in the market for Len to get a deal like Caldwell-Pope did.
It is unlikely that the Phoenix Suns will renounce his rights and pull the qualifying offer. Reported by Kevin Zimmerman, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough expressed that he has continual contact with the center and his interest to have Len back with the Suns.
Len must take this situation into his own hands and bet on himself this upcoming season. Dallas Mavericks center Nerlens Noel recently accepted his qualifying offer which will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Len should follow Noel’s example and sign his qualifying offer sheet. He will have one year to show the Suns that he can become the Sun’s franchise center. If he cannot prove that he is worth a long term contract with the Suns or he does not feel he is not part of the team’s future, then he is free to sign elsewhere.
