NBA teams do some sort of offseason chemistry building activity. Coach Earl Watson took strong steps in building the Phoenix Suns’ chemistry this offseason.

Phoenix Suns head coach Earl Watson has gotten plenty of grief during his short stint as an NBA head coach. Some of it was warranted such as his handling of veteran players like Brandon Knight. There are plenty of negatives that fans could throw at former player now coach, however there are some improvements that can be seen in Watson’s coaching ability. Watson took big steps in team build skills this offseason.

Watson took Suns’ players back to were his professional career was realized as a possibility. UCLA allowed their alumni to return to his stomping ground with his players. Once the team arrived they worked on a variety of skills and drills. The team meet up with some of the NBA’s best players like elite guard James Harden and two-way star wing Paul George that participated in several scrimmages. This is much better than when he took the team doing non-basketball activities.

In the Instagram picture above it is clear that there is strong bond between players and the coach. Watson made sure to focus on basketball this offseason. This shows he is much more focused on building Suns basketball culture and improving player skills. This team’s rebuilding needs to consistently focus on developing basketball I.Q. and skill. These moves were brilliantly done by the second year head coach.

Next: What each Suns player’s offseason goals should be

Obviously based off this move by Watson, it shows he has grown as a leader and coach from last offseason. This offseason team building will only motivate and benefit the young players during this rebuild. With this new approach to the offseason that Watson has taken, fans should be encouraged to see some sort of growth within the coach and team this coming season.
