We are currently in the middle of the offseason where most players take their time to work on their game. Right now a handful of NBA players are in the gym getting ready for the season. With success in mind, what are some of the possible goal each player have entering the new season?

Currently, the Suns’ roster stands at 17 with two players under a two-way contract and one being a restricted free agent.

Note: this will not include Alex Len since he’s still a free agent.

With the NBA’s new two-way contract, players can spend up to 45 days with the team that signed them. After that, the team can decide on whether or not they’ll give the player a standard NBA contract. If they don’t, the player will become a free-agent.

The players they signed were Mike James and Alec Peters.

Mike James played for the Phoenix Suns’ summer league team back in 2015 where they made it all the way to the championship game and this year’s summer league team where they made an early exit in the playoffs.

James was undrafted back in 2012 and he has then spent his time playing overseas namely in Croatia, Italy, and most recently, Greece.

Alec Peters on the other hand was selected with the 54th pick in this years NBA draft. He had a very decorated career in Valparaiso where he averaged 23.0 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game in his senior year. Peters was also named Horizon League Player of the Year in his final season at Valpo.

Peters was not able to participate for the Suns in summer league as he was nursing a right foot injury.

Both of these players will most likely spend 45 days with the team and after that they will spend the rest of their contracts in the G-League. In order for them to get a standard NBA contract they will have to stand out among the rest in the G-League.

Last year Elijah Millsap impressed the front office enough that he was guaranteed a multi-year contract. It’s not hard to imagine both James and Peters doing the same thing with how James played in summer league and the fact that Phoenix used it’s last pick to get Peters.
