Phoenix Suns: 5 Things You May Have Missed From Media Day
3. Markieff Working On Three-Point Shooting
Markieff Morris was the centerpiece of Media Day news for the Suns, with his sudden and unexpected change of heart dominating the proceedings. It may have been a more boring alternative than him publicly blasting the Suns again, but it was the biggest takeaway of the day regardless.
However, something that slipped through the cracks was Keef’s blunt assessment of his abilities as a stretch-4. When asked what he’d been working on over the summer to improve for the 2015-16 season, he replied, “Three-pointers, for the most part. I shot them terrible last year, I’ll shoot them better this year.”
Last season, Keef shot 31.8 percent from three-point territory on a career-high 2.2 attempts per game. In 2013-14, he converted only 31.5 percent of his 1.3 attempts per game from long range. In fact, a look at Morris’ four years in the league reveals his three-point efficiency has declined every season he’s been in the NBA.
As a rookie, Keef made 34.7 percent of his 2.0 three-point attempts per game. For the Suns to effectively spread the floor and open up lanes for their penetrators, they’ll be hoping Morris can post numbers more similar to his rookie season. According to Keef, that won’t be a problem.
“I’ve gotten better every year I’ve been in the league and I’m going to continue to get better with or without my brother,” he said.
