Conclusion

Mudiay is going to be a really good point guard, but if the Suns are going to jump to No. 4, doesn’t it make more sense to take one of the higher ceiling guys? Obviously if either Jahlil Okafor or D’Angelo Russell is available, the asking price goes up, but at least those two don’t have a crippling weakness on the level of Mudiay’s shot.

Kristaps Porzingis also makes more sense as he is exactly what the Suns need positionally and skill-wise (I can’t wait for this sentence to be the reason I don’t get a job 5-10 years down the road).

General manager Ryan McDonough’s public stance has been that it’ll take the farm (or in the Knicks’ case, the small plot of land they aren’t legally allowed to trade for more dirt) to move out of the 13th spot. Of course, that’s the public stance any semi-competent GM would take.

With the Suns seemingly stuck in no man’s land between contention and Philadelphia, it’s the right time to swing for the fences. But it would be a shame for them to strike out on a ball just outside.
