Conclusion

I wouldn’t count on Larry Nance Jr. living up to his father’s legacy if he’s drafted by the Phoenix Suns, but would it really hurt to give it a shot and find out? The second round is basically a crapshoot anyway, so although Phoenix will still need perimeter shooting should they take a big in the first round, there’s a ton of quality, attainable shooters hitting free agency this summer.

Names like Robert Upshaw, Michael Frazier II or even Pat Connaughton could prevent a Nance-Suns reunion in the second round, but McDonough will have quite a few options with the 44th overall pick.

Assuming that Phoenix’s second-rounder isn’t included in a deal, Nance is as good a bet as anyone to succeed as a second round success story. He definitely has areas of his game that he’ll need to improve, but putting him in a feel-good situation where his father once played might give him extra motivation to create his own legacy.

The Suns didn’t have much to feel good about this past season and their frontcourt needs added depth. After such a strong NBA Draft Combine, Phoenix should strongly consider adding the next Nance if he’s still available at No. 44.
