The son of former Suns great Larry Nance, this 6’9″, 227-pound power forward from Wyoming projects to be a second round draft pick. Though he’s already 22 years old, Nance Jr. has the interior game that the Suns badly need at the 4-spot to help bolster their frontcourt depth.
After averaging 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor in his senior season, there’s a good chance Nance is still on the board by the time Phoenix is on the clock at No. 44. With the team still stuck in an uncomfortably long rebuilding process that has yet to provide Phoenix with a face of the franchise, a nostalgic, feel-good pick might help improve morale a little bit.
But does Nance have the game to warrant being the 44th overall pick in this year’s draft? Ranked No. 48 on ESPN’s Chad Ford’s Big Board and No. 56 on DraftExpress, Nance Jr. will have his work cut out for him at the next level. Here’s a look at whether the Suns should use their low-risk second round pick on keeping the Nance name in the family.
