Overview

As the 2015 NBA Draft approaches, we’ll be taking a look at the top prospects in this year’s class to gain a sense of what the Phoenix Suns should do with their pick. Today, we’ll be taking a look at Juwan Staten.

More from Suns News

At 5’11”, 186 pounds, Staten isn’t going to blow anyone away with his size, unlike George de Paula or some of the other point guard prospects, but he is just a completely different type of player. Being a four-year college player, Staten has a track record unlike most, especially given the degree to which his teams leaned on him in college.

Staten averaged at least 27 minutes per game every year, and at least 31 minutes per game in each of his last two years, despite dealing with injuries that caused him to miss a few games. He also averaged at least 10.5 points per 40 minutes every year, and he averaged at least 14 points per game in each of his last two seasons.

ESPN’s Chad Ford has Staten projected as either going in the second round or going undrafted in his player evaluation, which means that the Suns could take him with the 44th pick (or go after him after the draft), and that might not be the worst thing in the world. There has been talk about the team adding a backup point guard, and Staten’s do-it-all style would fit right in behind Eric Bledsoe, but we’ll obviously get much more into that as you read.

With that, let’s take a look at Juwan Staten’s 2015 NBA Draft profile.
