5. What was your favorite buzzer beater from this past weekend?

Bourguet: Derrick Rose’s off the backboard three in Game 3. LeBron James’ corner three was the most pure buzzer-beater of the bunch, but I’m not taking for granted the fact that Rose is both A) actually playing in playoff games again and B) playing extremely well. I didn’t care as much that he didn’t call glass when I heard United Center roaring for their hero after hitting a game-winner in a playoff game. That was something special no matter what happens in the rest of this series.

Chasen: It had to be LeBron’s buzzer beater. To me, the other ones were just lucky, which reminds me of the Blake Griffin and Khris Middleton backboard-hitting-buzzer beaters this year. They were luck shots, as was Derrick Rose’s bank shot… as was Paul Pierce’s bank shot. LeBron’s was just a great shot, and that’s why it was my favorite.

Hann: Hmm, clearly LeBron had the most legit and impressive buzzer-beater, as it wasn’t a halfcourt heave (Rose) or a line drive that somehow banked in (Pierce). But if you’re asking for my personal favorite? It’s Paul Pierce and it’s not even close. “The Truth” as he is called, came through yet again in the most clutch of moments. However, my favorite part about his game winner isn’t the shot itself. Just refer to his postgame comments when notified that Dennis Schroader–who had been guarding Pierce on the play—called his shot “lucky”. Pierce’s response: He probably missed that shot playing as me in 2K. How can you not love it?

Saar: LeBron’s was fine, but the other two were my favorites. The Paul Pierce one was awesome because of his line in the post-game interview as sideline reporter Chris Broussard asked if Pierce called bank and he said, “I called game!” Just the “old man” buzzer-beater is cool. The best was Rose’s though. I’m just so excited and happy for Rose to see him playing at such a high level. Pierce’s was probably the hardest, slightly over Rose’s, but I liked Rose’s fadeaway three that nearly got blocked. Three buzzer-beaters so close together, how awesome is the NBA?

Harris: Oooooohhh that’s a tough one. It’s got to be the LeBron James shot to beat the Bulls on Sunday. First, that shot saved an otherwise putrid game in which both teams shot under 39%. Finally, it put some water on the still-burning cliche that, “LeBron isn’t clutch,” and in my opinion it’s better for everyone to realize what we are seeing when he plays.
