Fighting For The Playoffs

The discussion surrounding Gerald Green’s playing time starts with the fact that the Suns are still technically in the playoff hunt. Saturday’s appalling performance against the San Antonio Spurs was an eye-opener, but not long before that we were all busy praising Eric Bledsoe as the new leader of the Suns and wondering if we had declared Phoenix to be dead too soon.

If the organization’s goal for the 2014-15 season is to make the playoffs, which it most certainly still is, Green seems like their best shooting guard option coming off the bench. Don’t forget, the Suns lost their best bench scorer in Isaiah Thomas and as we saw all of last season, Green’s microwave act can bail his team out of tough situations when he’s feeling it.

Archie Goodwin has way more potential than Green, and he also has a long-term future with the Suns. But Green at his peak is better than Goodwin at his peak at this point in time. The Suns need all the help they can get as they fight for a playoff spot, which is why Green is still getting minutes over Goodwin.
