Earlier this morning, we took a look at 5 reasons the Phoenix Suns should trade Gerald Green. Now, we flip the script and examine what reasons the Suns have for keeping their streaky backup past the Feb. 19 NBA trade deadline.

Gerald Green is a free agent this summer. He’s played a grand total of 16 minutes in his last three games and it seems that head coach Jeff Hornacek might be phasing him out of the rotation. At this point, it’s only natural to wonder about his long-term future in the Valley of the Sun.

However, that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily on his way out. The Suns currently sit at eighth in the Western Conference standings and are in pursuit of a playoff spot, with Green having been a big bench contributor for the majority of the season.

Last season, the Four-Fingered Assassin averaged 15.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range. This year, his numbers have fallen off a bit — 13.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 20.9 MPG, 41.6 FG%, 37.3 3P% — but his heat checks remain as deadly as ever.

At this point in time, it’s tempting to put Green on the trade block and call it a day. But here are five reasons the Phoenix Suns should keep him past the Feb. 19 trade deadline.
