Wow. That was the only word to describe Victor Wembanyama's performance in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals for the San Antonio Spurs versus the Oklahoma City Thunder.
How the Phoenix Suns could look at that and think trading away Jalen Green is the only piece of business they should consider this summer is crazy, even if there are deals out there that make sense.
Time to go all in for Giannis to combat Wemby is now
Which is why it is time to return to the idea of trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Suns are rightly considered a long shot for his services, and the Greek superstar himself has never given any indication that he would be willing to move to The Valley.
But with Wembanyama well ahead of schedule and straight up terrorizing the defending champion Thunder, the rest of the decade is looking bleak for the rest of the conference.
That is unless the Suns can somehow land Giannis, who is about as a good a defender against the French phenom as there is. Not that we've seen a lot of this, even Antetokounmpo gives up some height and if Wembanyama keeps making Stephen Curry like 3-pointers its a wrap for the rest of the league for as long as he is playing.
STILL NOT OVER THIS SHOT ðŸ˜

But Suns' head coach Jordan Ott already effectively game planned for Wembanyama this season, sticking both Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale on him to some success.
That can never work for an entire game, and having a genuine superstar in Giannis to go up against Wemby would at least give the Suns a fighting chance for the rest of this decade.
Which is how they have to approach the remainder of Devin Booker's prime. Hard to see him watching the Spurs in these playoffs and believing that running it back or trading one of Green or Dillon Brooks is what will take them over the top.
Owner Mat Ishbia has rightly preached building slowly after the mess that was the Kevin Durant era, and home run trades when you don't have a foundation in place won't work.
But with Giannis seemingly available, the Suns having at least a starting point in trade negotations and Wembanyama officially unleashed, Phoenix can't hang around.
The whole league has a massive problem that is only going to get better, and combating Wembanyama with an elite big might just be the only way to stop him.
